The University of Wessex is a English university in an area called Wessex, which is the central location setting for The Demon Headmaster Takes Over. The Hunter's house is said to be only a twenty minute bus ride from the university.
Whilst it is not known all of what is studied at the university, apart from the Hyper Brain project, there many different departments on campus such as "English and American studies", Engineering, Law, Social sciences, Artificial intelligence unit, Biological science lab as well as a large campus Library.
The building is first mentioned in'The Demon Headmaster Strikes Again' as Dinah receives a letter from Claudia concerning the creeper found in the Biogenetic Research Centre.
The University takes centre stage in "Takes Over" as the Headmaster becomes controller and runs Hyperbrain experiments from inside the lab. Scientists and professors are seen being hypnotized by the headmaster in the University's conference hall, together with the creation of the green hand badges the headmaster now has more people in power to take control.

- "Takes Over Part 1": The Headmaster is reborn and is taken to the university by Mr. Smith at which point he starts hypnotising people and starts taking over.
- A group of scientist attend a conference by Tim Dexter on Artificial intelligence and are all hypnotised by the Headmaster when he takes the podium.
